At Strathclyde, we have a long and distinguished history of turning useful learning into meaningful impact, a tradition upheld by a growing community of innovators driving change across society. In celebration of Earth Day 2025 and its theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” we’re proud to highlight ventures like Regeno, which is accelerating the shift to clean energy and climate resilience through renewable technology solutions. Their work directly contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those focused on affordable clean energy and climate action, demonstrating how Strathclyde entrepreneurs are building a more sustainable and equitable future.
Regeno Ltd – a Strathclyde startup – is developing the world’s first flat-pack, modular, plug-and-play wind turbine. With sustainability at its core, Regeno empowers individuals and communities to generate clean, homegrown electricity, reducing both emissions and energy costs.
Designed to be assembled tool-free, Regeno’s turbines eliminate the need for cranes or professional installers, dramatically lowering installation costs. Their clip-on mechanism allows for fast, safe repairs and provides more energy output than traditional utility sources, meeting the growing demand for affordable, renewable power. Each Regeno module can save customers up to 25% on their electricity bills and reduce carbon emissions by up to 1.5 tons annually – the equivalent of planting over 60 trees per year.
From Dissertation to Disruption
Regeno was founded by Adarsh Bhardwaj, an Aero-mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Strathclyde, who was inspired to reimagine wind energy while working on his final-year dissertation. After graduating in 2023, he attended an event at the Inspire Hub at Strathclyde, which introduced him to the entrepreneurial ecosystem and the support available through Strathclyde Inspire.
As I was playing with the idea at the time, it offered a low risk, supportive environment for me to begin my venture in.
With an initial grant of £1,000, Adarsh developed Regeno’s first prototype. The startup has since benefited from additional support including a place on Inspire’s investor-ready Accelerator programme, designed to help high-growth potential ventures prepare for investment. This includes a £5,000 grant, investor-readiness training, mentorship, and an opportunity to present their pitch at our bi-annual showcase event Inspire100, where £18,500 prize funding is available.
Adarsh claims this support has been pivotal in enabling Regeno to develop its minimum viable product (MVP) and setting the foundation for future growth and innovation.
Innovation Rooted in Sustainability
Every aspect of Regeno's design reflects a commitment to sustainability, from the use of recyclable materials to low-emission installation methods. It’s a product designed not only for performance, but for the long-term health of our planet. Adarsh explains his motivation:
Making a difference is what drives me. Regeno is about more than just technology—it’s about helping society reduce its carbon footprint while tackling soaring energy costs.
He believes that delays in reaching emissions targets often stem from renewable energy projects being too expensive or time-consuming. He explains:
At Regeno, we’re tackling this challenge head-on by cutting both cost and complexity. Our goal is to make generating homegrown energy easier than ever. To truly accelerate the adoption of wind power, startups need to first reduce the complexity of projects and then work on enhancing the efficiency of existing technologies.
Advice for Future Changemakers
Adarsh shares some practical advice for aspiring entrepreneurs:
Break it down into smaller, bite-sized chunks. Don’t try to do everything at once—it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Most importantly, make sure you understand your market, customer journey, and what truly drives decision-making.
Looking ahead, Regeno is aiming to secure pre-seed investment to launch field trials and begin development on a utility-scale version of its modular turbines.
As we mark Earth Day 2025, Regeno Ltd is a powerful example of how "Our Power, Our Planet" is more than just a theme, it’s a call to action.
By making wind energy more accessible, modular, and affordable, Regeno is helping drive the global shift toward renewable power and contributing to the ambitious goal of tripling clean electricity generation by 2030.
