A multi-disciplinary centre of excellence dedicated to advancing our understanding of the molecular basis of disease.
The Strathclyde Centre for Molecular Bioscience (SCMB) draws upon Strathclyde’s strength, which spans the Faculties of Science and Engineering. Our researchers have unique expertise in medicinal chemistry & chemical biology, biopharmaceutical chemistry, chem/bioinformatics, analytical science, molecular and cellular biology, bioengineering and device design. We apply an integrated research ethos across these areas, which is used to address the most important biological and medical problems facing society.
Areas of Focus
Identifying molecular signatures of ageing and disease
Researchers in the SCMB develop molecular tools which are used to gain an understanding of the molecular determinants of disease and the ageing process.
Developing cutting-edge tools, devices and technologies to interrogate biological processes
The design and application of cutting-edge analytical and device technology is at the core of the SCMB. SCMB researchers collaborate closely to design cutting edge technology and devices to interrogate fundamental biology.
Establishing new therapeutics to treat disease
Our researchers in the SCMB have expertise in the design and precision synthesis of small molecules and biologics. We are using this expertise to facilitate the development of new therapeutics.
