University and Students’ Union sign third Strategic Alliance

Students' Union president Eva Curran and Principal Professor Sir Jim McDonald sign the Strategic Alliance Framework document

The University of Strathclyde and Strathclyde Students’ Association (Strath Union) have signed a Strategic Alliance Framework for the current academic year.

The contents of the Framework reflect the institutions’ shared ambitions for 2024-25 and highlight the continued intention to work closely together on delivering the strategic goals that are common to both organisations.

The document is the third edition of the Framework since it was first produced in 2022. It sets out objectives for the University and the Union in four key themes: Wellbeing; Inclusion, Diversity, Equality and Accessibility (IDEA); Sustainability, and Student Community, as well as the means by which their aims are to be delivered.

World-class experience

The overall goals of the strategic alliance include the delivery of a world-class student experience, working together to deliver strategic objectives and preparing and equipping students for life during and beyond their time at Strathclyde.

The objectives are to be underpinned by the organisations’ respective Values and a range of Memoranda of Understanding. They will also be enabled through effective communication and regular engagement between the organisations and with the University’s staff and students.

Strathclyde Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Jim McDonald said:

The educational success and the personal wellbeing and development of our students are central to our role in helping to shape a healthy, prosperous global society from which everyone benefits.

“We share these aims and aspirations with the Students’ Union and the Strategic Alliance Framework is the ideal arrangement for us to work together in pursuit of these goals. The establishment of the Framework provides us with an excellent platform for collaboration and is widely recognised as a sector leading partnership model.”

Union President Eva Curran said: "I'm delighted to sign off the Strategic Alliance Framework, symbolising another year of partnership between Strath Union and the University of Strathclyde. This Framework ensures that we work together to deliver meaningful change, enhance the student experience, and build a stronger, more inclusive university community."
