Strathclyde has been shortlisted in three categories of The Herald Education Awards for Further and Higher Education 2025, which mark their tenth anniversary this year.
The University is competing in the Research Project of the Year, Widening Access and Supporting Student Wellbeing categories.
A project which sees scientists helping the Nith Inshore Lifeboat crew to safely navigate the shifting water channels of the Solway Firth on rescue missions by harnessing data from satellites is the Research Project entry.
In the Widening Access category is the University’s Young Strathclyder programme which is aimed at raising the aspirations of pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds and supporting their educational attainment and learning opportunities.
Last year, a total of 1,273 pupils from P5-P7 took part in the Young Strathclyder Primary programme, which saw them engage in a range interactive educational activities, designed by staff across the University’s four faculties – Strathclyde Business School, Science, Engineering and Humanities & Social Sciences – to help the children to build a sense of belonging and confidence within a Higher Education setting.
In the Supporting Student Wellbeing category, the University has been recognised for its introduction of a pioneering, around-the-clock support system to ensure students in distress receive timely and effective care. The Early Intervention Team initiative is rooted in the University’s commitment to tackling inequalities and enhancing student wellbeing, aligning with its broader strategic goal of delivering an outstanding student experience.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in the Radisson Blu hotel in Glasgow on 29 May hosted by Fred MacAulay.
