What is prosthetics and orthotics?
Prosthetics is concerned with the replacement of a patient’s limb following amputation. Orthotics creates devices that support a patient’s body to compensate for paralysed muscles, provide relief from pain, or prevent orthopaedic deformities from progressing.

Our volunteers: Geoffrey Ward
Geoffrey was working for the British Army in the Falkland Islands, after the war in 1983, when he stepped on a mine and, as a result, lost his foot. He went back to work following surgery and rehabilitation and then around eight years ago he began volunteering at the University to work with students.
