- Duration: Three years
Overview
Women’s health is a chronically under-researched area despite the fact that slightly more than half of the global population is female. Our understanding of several conditions primarily or exclusively affecting female patients – including endometriosis, which can have a profound impact on women’s well-being – is insufficient, and disease symptoms are frequently trivialised. Consequently, there is a substantial need to improve how patients are supported in their daily lives.Eligibility
Experience with providing health care to patients is preferred (for example as a nurse, pharmacist, physician, psychologist, or any other allied health care professional); some experience with qualitative research would be beneficial but is not required.

Project Details
The aim of this project is to develop a holistic approach to managing endometriosis in Scotland, including the provisioning of supportive care, by identifying patients’ needs, understanding current barriers to addressing these needs, and designing pilot interventions to address unmet support needs. The project will be very multi-disciplinary in nature, applying a range of different methods – including, but not restricted to, literature reviews; surveys, focus groups, and/or interviews; and patient-centred co-design workshops.
Funding details
Applicants are required to self-fund, i.e. find sponsorship for tuition and bench fees of between £5,000 and £8,000 per annum for the duration of studies.
While there is no funding in place for opportunities marked "unfunded", there are lots of different options to help you fund postgraduate research. Visit funding your postgraduate research for links to government grants, research councils funding and more, that could be available.
