Women's Rugby Scholarships

The University of Strathclyde offers some of the most competitive Sport Scholarships in the UK. Regardless of Sport, all Sport Scholars receive a comprehensive support package to help them reach their sporting and academic potential.

Women's  Rugby scholarships for talented and ambitious female rugby union players from Scotland regarded as ‘Home’ students for tuition fees purposes.

Selection criteria

As a guide, applicants should have at least Junior (U18) International experience (15s or 7s), but with consideration also given to, for example:

  • Glasgow Warriors Women’s squad players
  • Arnold Clark Women’s Premiership players
  • SRU Regional Training Centre players
  • SRU Girls U18s Regional Game Series players

Level of study

Rugby scholarships for talented and ambitious female rugby union players from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland regarded as ‘Rest of UK’ (RUK) for tuition fees purposes.

Selection criteria

As a guide, applicants should have at least Junior (U18) International experience (15s or 7s), but with consideration also given to, for example:

  • Celtic Challenge squad player
  • RFU U18 Player Development Group (PDG) Centre players
  • IRFU U18 Interpros players
  • WRU Women’s U18 Regional Age-Grade Championship

In addition, our Performance team may also identify potential rugby scholars during the admissions process.

Level of study

Rugby scholarships for talented and ambitious female rugby union players from non-UK countries regarded as ‘International’ students for tuition fees purposes.

Eligibility rules

UK University sports are regulated by British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS; Britain's equivalent of the NCAA). BUCS eligibility rules allow student-athletes to compete in BUCS for an unlimited number of years. As a result, ALL former University and College (incl. NCAA) athletes are eligible to compete for the University whilst studying for a postgraduate degree, regardless of the number of years they have previously played College / University sport.​​

Selection criteria

As a guide, applicants from World Rugby top 10 ranked countries should be of a least Junior (U18) International standard (15s or 7s), but with consideration also given to, for example:

  • South African U18 Provincial players
  • Rugby Ontario U17 and U19 Interbranch players
  • Rugby Canada QORC Senior players
  • NCAA Div I or II College players
  • Super Rugby Pacific U19 Club players ​​

In addition, our Performance team may also identify potential rugby scholars during the admissions process.
