The women's Water Polo club have won BUCS for a 2nd year in a row!!
The Strathclyde women’s Water Polo won the National Trophy at the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Big Wednesday event in Loughborough on 19th March.
The BUCS Big Wednesday is a yearly event which showcases Championship and Trophy finals across 16 league sports.
In a thrilling final the club beat Nottingham with 12-14. They are the only water polo team in the UK to have won the Trophy back-to-back!
The Most Valuable Player of the Match went to Strathclyde player and Sport Scholar, Nicole Morrison, for her outstanding 8 out of the 14 goals!
It ends another unbeatable season for our Director of Water Polo and Head Coach, Ton Kloosterman, in his second season with the team. Speaking of the final he said: "What a great game. Everyone has put in so much hard work and dedication this season. The team designed their own game plan. It worked out really well. I think the semi’s we won here in Loughborough two weeks ago felt more like a final. That gave us the experience of winning a close game in a tough environment."
The Dutch coach continued, “playing Nottingham in front of a huge and noisy crowd is challenging, but we were well prepared and confident. We felt the positive support from our own fans. That really helped us.”
As a result of winning the league, Strathclyde has qualified for playoffs for promotion to the BUCS Premier division. In a trio of games, they take on Sheffield Hallam in an away game. Loughborough will visit Strathclyde Sport on the 9th of April.
