What is your current role?

I am currently a Senior Academic (Professor) and Researcher in the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS). My primary responsibilities include leading cutting-edge research in pharmacy, mentoring students and early career researchers, and contributing to the development of the curriculum. I am also actively involved in various committees and initiatives that aim to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion within our institution.

Why do you love your job?

I love my job because it allows me to blend my passion for research with my commitment to education and mentorship. Every day, I have the opportunity to explore new frontiers in pharmacy, contribute to the scientific community, and, most importantly, make a meaningful impact on the lives of my students and colleagues. SIPBS is a place where innovation is encouraged, diversity is celebrated, and everyone is supported in their professional growth. The collaborative environment here fosters a sense of belonging and purpose, which makes coming to work each day a truly rewarding experience.

Passions

One of my deepest passions is mentoring the next generation of scientists and academics, particularly in fostering a more inclusive environment for women and underrepresented groups in STEM. I strongly believe that everyone, regardless of gender, race, or background, should have equal opportunities to succeed.

Advice you would give to early career researchers

My advice to early career researchers is to be resilient, proactive and stay true to your passion. Academia can be challenging, and setbacks are inevitable, but each challenge is an opportunity for growth. Seek out mentors who can offer advice and support, and don’t be afraid to take risks in your research. Also, remember the importance of building a diverse network of colleagues and collaborators; diversity in perspectives is a powerful driver of innovation. Lastly, advocate for yourself and others—by doing so, you contribute to a more inclusive and equitable academic community.

What are your aspirations?

My aspirations are twofold: to continue advancing the frontiers of research in pharmacy and biomedical sciences, and to contribute meaningfully to creating a more inclusive and supportive academic environment. On the research front, I am committed to exploring innovative solutions to some of the most pressing health challenges of our time. I aim to lead interdisciplinary projects that not only push the boundaries of scientific knowledge but also have a tangible impact on patient care and public health.
Equally important to me is the aspiration to mentor and inspire the next generation of scientists, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. I hope to play a key role in shaping policies and practices within SIPBS that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. By doing so, I aspire to create a culture where every individual, regardless of gender, race, or background, feels empowered to pursue their goals and achieve excellence
