About us

Our aim is to address aspects of physics teaching and learning through collaboration.

The group defines Physics Education Research broadly and we consider it across all stages, for all learners and in both formal and informal settings. We are passionate about enhancing education with practical work and ensuring all learners have the skills required to flourish in their current and future lives.

SUPER is made up of staff and students from the Department of Physics and the Strathclyde Institute of Education. We welcome the diverse range of skills and knowledge that different roles bring, and include researchers, teaching staff, technicians, UG and PG students as members.

Evaluating Practical Methodologies in Physics Education

The research team collaborated with school and college teachers and technicians to examine the methods available teach specific concepts within secondary school physics curricula.

Teaching electrical circuits in Scottish secondary schools

This project aims to explore the current provision in S1 and S2 teaching of electrical circuits to gain insight into pedagogical and technical practice within the Scottish context, and to develop further work on teaching of these concepts.

    EDI in the Lifecycle of the (Physics) Student Journey in HE

     As part of the John Anderson Research Colloquia, Dr Matt Mears from the University of Sheffield presents an exploration of the theme of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in physics education through the lens of three distinct research projects, structured around the lifecycle of a student's academic journey.
