My research group is developing novel ultra-high coherence lasers for applications in metrology and cold atom-based sensors. We collaborate with industry and a number of research groups in the area of quantum technologies.

I lead the Photonics Materials & Devices research group which studies a diverse range of micro and nanostructure devices made from materials including gallium nitride, diamond and semiconductor nano-crystals.
I joined the Institute of Photonics in August 2002 as part of Dr David Burns’ solid-state laser engineering team. My research centres on the science and engineering of compact solid-state lasers.

My research group develops devices to interface with neural systems in an effort to understand aspects of neural processing. We collaborate closely with leading neuroscientists and develop high-end technology using advanced semiconductor processing techniques.

Deputy Director
I'm an Associate Team Leader in the Photonic Materials and Devices group at the Institute of Photonics. I'm pursuing a programme of research at the interface of Photonics, Nanotechnology and the Life Sciences.

I am a lecturer in Photonic Semiconductor Devices at the Institute of Photonics, with a primary interest in Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) technologies.

In 2014 I was awarded a Chancellor Fellowship by the University of Strathclyde. As a result of this award I started working from October 2014 as a Lecturer at the Strathclyde’s Institute of Photonics.
