EcoShipYard (ESY) is a new Horizon Europe-funded project (Agreement number 101138730), in which the University of Strathclyde is participating.
It will contribute to the EU’s environmental and climate goals by effectively monitoring shipyard environmental performance, reducing emissions from processes and promoting a circular economy in the shipbuilding sector.
In launching EcoShipYard, the aims is to create a roadmap for shipbuilding processes to minimise environmental impacts, add decision support to a ship’s life cycle, and ensure compliance with regulations and directives.
EcoShipYard delivers a TRL8 product as a service targeted to shipyards to help them quantify their environmental performance, assess their impact, and to assist them in becoming greener.
To deliver the expected RTD outcome, EcoShipYard considers the development of models, digital tools, and digital twin to provide technology means for sustainability monitoring and assessment.
January 2024 marked the official project launch which has a 36-month duration, until December 2026. ESY comprises 16 partners, 5 research institutions, 5 SMEs, a classification society, three industrial shipyards/shipowners, and three companies from 11 European countries and the UK.
Academic involved: Professor Evangelos Boulougouris
