Scottish Substance Use Charter and the work of Alan Miller highlighted by UN OHCHR
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights at the United Nations recently published an online story about “An effective and humane approach to drug policies”
Within that publication, Scotland’s Charter of Rights for People Affected by Substance Use is highlighted, as are quotes from our Professor Alan Miller.
The Charter emerged from National Collaborative, which was an independent network chaired by Professor Miller involving civil society, decision-makers, affected communities, people who use drugs and their families.
UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk welcomed the Charter as “a shift away from punishment and towards prevention, treatment, and support for those affected by drug use, in line with the International Guidelines on Human Rights and Drug Policy.”
