David Istance, Senior Analyst from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's Centre for Educational Research and Innovation, and co-author of the 2015 report ‘Improving Schools in Scotland: An OECD Perspective’ will present on ‘International Reflections on Innovation, Learning and Teaching.
First, he will draw together the main arguments for a strong drive to innovate the core activity and organisation of schooling; he will argue that this message is being increasingly heard in different countries around the world.
Second, he will present the main conclusions from the international Innovative Learning Environments (ILE) project that he led, including its main design learning principles, conditions for and indicators of progress, and the importance of the "meso" network level for transformative change to take place at scale. ILE also emphasised a focus on the "pedagogical core" of learning environments in the drive to innovate, which focus is being pursued in a newly-launched, follow-up project, Innovative Pedagogies for Powerful Learning.
Third, David will present the organising framework and initial results from this recent international initiative.
