Course leader nominated for award

Tahitia McCabe, course leader for Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies (MSc), was nominated as Most Supportive Lecturer in the University of Strathclyde Students’ Association’s 7th annual Teaching Excellence Awards.

The Teaching Excellence Awards give our students the opportunity to show their appreciation for staff who've gone above and beyond expectations in delivering learning and teaching across the University.

I was quite gobsmacked and humbled by the nomination, many thanks to the person who nominated me! Genealogy is something that students are passionate about and it’s all too easy to get side-tracked into interesting byways when completing assessments.

"Caught between the allure of doing research and the myriad of responsibilities our students face (work, family, caring, and so on) many become stressed and tired. I find that positive feedback really helps and I try and give pointers as to where students can cut back on detail and stay focused on what’s truly important. There are only so many hours in the day after all."
