A Day in the Life (Niamh - English)

Waking up in the morning is starting to become more and more of a struggle, as the sun rises later, and my bed (unsurprisingly) gets comfier.  Although, as I eventually manage to get out of bed, I, very, very slowly get ready for classes.

Breakfast for me usually includes either cereal, fruit, or the occasional trip to the canteen for some steamed Bao buns.

Luckily for me, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Fridays, my classes are in the building closest to our dorms, so I can practically roll out of bed and into class. On Mondays and Thursdays however, my classes are in the new building, which is only a 5-minute walk away, so is it really that bad? Every day I have classes from half 8, until noon, leaving me with the whole day to catch up with studying, sleep, and TV shows.

Lunch changes from day to day, with the many different places to eat on campus, I sometimes feel spoiled for choice. However, I usually, head over to the supermarket, or if I'm feeling rather hungry, I’ll head to the buffet and load up my plate.  Funnily enough, every day, after lunch I manage to squeeze in a good 2-hour TV break, or even a nap.

Sometimes I’ll head over to the classrooms in the afternoon to get started with some studying, or homework. Studying in the classrooms is, in my opinion, a much easier place to study and do my homework as I feel like the change of scenery improves my focus drastically.

As the day winds down, I’ll usually head out for dinner with my classmates, catch up with any homework I missed, and then head to bed.

A Day in the Life (Niamh - Gaelic)

Tha èirigh sa mhadainn a' sìor-fhàs doirbh agus a' ghrian fhèin a' sìor-èirigh anmoch. Èiridh mi mu dheireadh thall às mo leabaidh cho cofhurtail agus nì mi deiseal gu màirnealach airson clas.

Bidh bracaist a' gabhail a-steach grànlach, measan, no corra thuras dhan thalla-bìdh airson baozi stiomaigte.

Gu fortanach, tha na clasaichean agam air DiMàirt, DiCiadain agus DihAoine san togalach as fhaisge air an dorm agus 's urrainn dhomh roiligeadh ann às mo leabaidh. 'S ann air DiLuain agus DiarDaoin a dh'fheumas mi coiseachd gu togalach cho fada air falbh (5 mionaidean iomlan!) Tòisichidh clasaichean gach latha air leth-uair an dèidh 8 agus crìochnaichidh iad aig meadhan-latha, le sin tha am feasgar air fad agam airson sgrùdadh, cadal, no TV a choimhead.

Bidh mi a' gabhail diofar bhìdh aig àm-lòin o là gu là agus fairichidh mi uaireannan "spoilt for choice". Ach 's tric gun tèid mi dhan bhùth no ma tha an t-acras nas motha, dhan buffet agus gabhaidh mi mias làn. Gu èibhinn, tha an t-àm agam an dèidh seo gach latha airson deagh-bhristeadh TV no fiù norrag airson dà uair a thìde.

Thèid mi gach corra feasgar dha na clasaichean airson sgrùdadh no obair-dhachaigh. Nam bheachd, tha na clasaichean àitichean matha airson obrach air sgàth 's gum bidh an atharrachadh àrainneachd a' leasachadh m' fhòcais gu mòr.

Am feadh 's a stòlaigeas an latha, thèid mi a-mach leis na co-sgoilearan agam, bheireas mi le obair-dhachaigh agus thèid mi dha mo leabaidh.

A Day in the Life (Kima - English)

Most mornings I get woken up minutes before class starts by my flatmate Zach rapping on my door to make sure I get up. I’ve gotten getting out the house down to a fine art, so I can be on my way to class within minutes. I still usually don’t have time to go via the shop for breakfast so I just have to hope that Leah has bought me something delicious. In class depending on the teacher we’ll either be learning mountains of vocab with 刘老师 Liu Laoshi who we call Mooncake because he gave us some in class during 中秋节 Midautumn Festival, or being asked to recite endless sentences from 高老师 Gao Laoshi who we call Tiger, or listening to 徐老师 Xu Laoshi rant about love, using 对吧 duiba/right as verbal punctuation.

After class, me and my classmates usually go the gaither to the canteen for lunch, and then unless we have some random activity the Uni told us about the day before (only some of which are compulsory), or it’s a Friday and we have afternoon class with 冯老师 Feng Laoshi, I’ll go back to bed for a siesta. On the good days I wake up again and usually go to the study building by our dorms which feels less intimidating than the teaching building, and has big blackboards for practicing our characters. Other days me and my mates will take the tube for 30 pence (it comes every 5 minutes) into the city to explore and shop and get tasty snacks like shaved ice.

For dinner we’ll either go back to the canteen or off to a restaurant if we’re feeling fancy. Afterwards, on the days we don’t have choir for two hours then we have our real free time where we might play basketball or badminton (though less often now the weather’s getting colder), go watch films in the study building, or anything. We have to be back in time for curfew at 11pm, when we might go call our friends and family or play games and chill with our flatmates, although if we have a test the next day you might find us cramming instead.

Cha mhòr nach e gach madainn a dh'eiricheas mi mionaid bheag ro tòiseach clas, buidheachas dha mo caraid-àrais Zach. Tha mi air foirfeachadh routine na maidne agus fàgaidh mi an dorm ann an 6 mionaidean an dèidh èirich. Ge-tà seo, 's ainneamh gum bidh àm airson bracaist a cheannaich, le sin bidh mi an dòchas gun do ghabh mo bhràmair agus co-sgoilear Leah rud air mo shon. Sa chlas, a-rèir an tidseir bidh sinn ag ionnsachadh tòrr faclan le 刘老师 Liu Laoshi (canaidh sinn Mooncake ris air sgàth 's gun tug e cèicean na gealaich dhuinn san 中秋节 Fhèis Mheadhan-Fhoghair) no ag aithris seantansan gun cheann le 高老师 Gao Laoshi (aig a bheil am frith-ainm Tiger), no ag èisteachd ri rant mu gràdh bho 徐老师 Xu Laoshi, a chleachdadh 对吧 duiba/ceart mar puingeachadh guthach.

An dèidh a' chlas, 's àbhaist gun tèid mise agus na co-sgoilearan agam ri chèile dhan talla-bìdh, an dèidh làimhe thilleas mi airson norrag, mura bhi grìomhachas neònach oilthighe no clas feasgar le 冯老师 Feng Laoshi ann. Air làithean, èiridh mi a-rithist agus 's tric gun teid mi dhan togalach-sgrùdaidh dìreach ri thaobh nan dorman - tha an leabhar-lann agus an togalach-teagaisg ro eagalach. Air làithean eile, thèid mi 's mo caraidean air an fho-rèile gu meadhan a' bhaile airson 50sg (tig an fho-rèile gach 5 mionaidean) agus coisichidh sinn no nì sinn seopaigeadh agus ceannaichidh sinn greamannan-bìdh mar sliseagan-deighe.

Airson dìnnear, tillidh sinn dhan talla-bìdh no gu taigh-bìdh spaideil. An dèidh sin, nuair nach eil dà uair còisire ann, tha àm fìor-shaor againn nuair is dòcha gun chluicheamaid basketball no badmantan, choimheadamaid fiolman san togalach-sgrùdaidh, no rud spòrsail sam bith. Feumaidh sinn tighinn air ais dhan dorm ro 11f, nuair a chuireamaid fòn air mo theaghlach no dh'iomaireamaid càirtean agus leigeamaid leinn, ged ma tha measadh oirnn an ath-latha, chitheadh tu sinn a' cramaigeadh.
