A Day In the Life (Bronwyn)
大家好,
Today I will be taking you through a day in the life while studying at Tianjin. Currently we’re on holiday so this isn’t my current schedule but it’s what I usually stick to when classes are running.
Most mornings I wake up at 7am and get ready to head to class. The canteens open at 7am so I get breakfast before heading to class, which is usually 粥 (porridge) or 包子 (bao buns). Class begins at 8:30 so I usually show up five minutes beforehand, most of my classmates show up to class by 8:20 and class starts when the bell rings. We have four periods of class a day, with each period lasting 45 minutes. The first two periods will be the first class, with a 10 minute break in the middle, then there is a 15 minute break before the second class which follows the same structure as the first. Class is finished by 12:05 most days, except for our afternoon class which happens once a week. Once class is finished its time for lunch.
We usually go and get lunch straight after class as 12:30-13:00 is the busiest time at the canteen. The first canteen is cheaper than the second canteen but the food doesn’t taste as nice, the second canteen is also closer to the dorms and the classrooms. Both the first and second canteen close at 13:30, so if you want to get food after that point the best option is one of the convenience stores on campus or fengweishilang which is open from 11-8. After lunch I usually head back to the dorm to read and relax or do homework. For my comprehensive classed we are given homework every day so there’s usually something to do for the next day.
During December we had a class performance to prepare for so part of my day was meeting up with classmates to practice for the concert that was being held. On campus there is a music hall with lots of practice rooms, so we were able to go there to practice for the concert. A couple of times a week I head to the music hall to practice piano. The practice rooms are usually full until 7-8pm so it’s best to head there in the evening.
The university next door to ours has a swimming pool so I sometimes go there to swim, there are also quite a few gyms nearby campus. They’re easy to get to as there are a lot of public bikes on campus that you can scan and use which makes it easy to get around, I use the bikes once or twice a day if I’m heading somewhere farther away on campus as it makes it take much less time than walking, especially if I’m heading to the subway or outside of the south gate of campus. Since campus is so big and it’s so easy to buy what you need from the convenience stores already here, it isn’t necessary to leave campus a lot which makes life fairly easy. Overall, my day to day is fairly relaxed and I’m able to spend time studying while also doing hobbies and hanging out with friends on campus.
