Overview
The UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) undertakes world-leading whole systems research focusing on the challenge of delivering the energy transition.
Established in 2004, UKERC is a trusted source of impartial analysis, valued across political parties and by industry and NGOs alike. With £11 million of new funding, four core research themes tackling key challenges will drive UKERC’s work:
- Delivering infrastructure at pace.
- Operating a highly renewable and electrified energy system.
- Geopolitics, security, and resilience.
- Affordability and justice.
The University of Strathclyde is one of a number of academic partners involved in the programme of work.
Dr Jamie Speirs, CEP Deputy Director, is a UKERC Co-Director and responsible for a strand of responsive research work that identifies and addresses existing evidence gaps in the energy policy space.
CEP’s Director, Professor Karen Turner, along with Research Fellows Dr Christian Calvillo and Dr Antonios Katris, is overseeing research that will contribute to the theme of affordability and justice.
This is in addition to research led by Professor Keith Bell on what is required to deliver the energy system infrastructure essential to the transition; and Dr James Dixon, who will lead a project on low-carbon transport.
