Centre for Energy Policy launches new podcast series to mark 10th Anniversary

NEWS | Eve Lucas | March 2025

The Centre for Energy Policy (CEP) has announced the launch of a new podcast series as part of its 10th-anniversary celebrations, expanding its successful Energy Conversations platform into the digital audio space.

The Energy Conversations podcast builds upon CEP's established event series of the same name, and aims to bridge the gap between academic research, industry insights, and public understanding of energy policy. Led by hosts Paulina Gonzalez-Martinez, Knowledge Exchange Associate, and Eve Lucas, Research and Communications Administrator, the series will feature in-depth discussions with experts from across the energy sector.

The series debuts with a powerful discussion on 'Women in Energy' featuring Donna Sutherland, Head of Commercial at Veri Energy, and Professor Karen Turner, Director and founder of CEP. In this inaugural episode, these experienced energy professionals share their personal experiences and insights into the evolving landscape of women's roles in the energy sector. Their candid conversation explores both the challenges and opportunities for women in the industry, whilst emphasising how diverse perspectives drive innovation and sustainability in the energy sector.

Bridging Research and Public Understanding

“We hope to shed light on the critical energy challenges and opportunities facing our society," explains Gonzalez-Martinez. "Through conversations with diverse voices from academia, industry, and beyond, we can deep dive into timely topics surrounding the pressing issues of the net zero transition.”

In addition to featuring new content, the podcast will serve as a platform for sharing recordings from the Energy Conversations live event series. This hybrid approach ensures that valuable discussions from CEP's in-person events reach a wider audience and create a lasting resource for those interested in energy policy.

Celebrating a Decade of Energy Policy Research

The timing of the podcast launch coincides with CEP's decade-long milestone of contributing to energy policy research and discourse. The Centre has already begun its anniversary celebrations, having hosted a special guest lecture by Dr David Joffe in November 2024. The recording of this inaugural event is currently available to listeners, offering a preview of the podcast's content and format. The Centre also hosted a guest lecture in February by Chris Stark, UK Government's Head of Mission Control for Clean Power 2030
Lucas notes, "The expansion into podcasting reflects CEP’s commitment to evolving with the times. It's particularly fitting to launch this initiative as we celebrate ten years of the Centre's work in energy policy research and engagement."

The podcast series represents a significant step in CEP's mission to facilitate informed dialogue about energy policy and its implications for society, the economy, and the environment. By bringing together diverse perspectives from across the energy sector, the series aims to contribute to a more nuanced and comprehensive understanding of energy challenges and solutions.

Diverse Topics and Perspectives

Listeners can expect episodes covering a wide range of topics, from green jobs and a Just Transition to industrial decarbonisation and policy innovation. The format allows for both timely discussions of current energy issues and deeper explorations of longer-term policy challenges.

The Energy Conversations podcast is available on multiple platforms, with new episodes scheduled for regular release. For more information about the podcast and the Centre for Energy Policy's 10th-anniversary celebrations, listeners can subscribe to the monthly CEP LinkedIn Newsletter.
