Our 2026 Programme

In collaboration with the Weir Group, we are delighted to be offering the Young WEIR-WISE programme again in January 2026 for female school pupils in S2.

Participants can spend two days on the University of Strathclyde campus or join our online session and will hear from staff at the University and colleagues from the Weir Group who will provide an insight into studying and working in the field of engineering. Pupils will also take part in practical activities run by University of Strathclyde staff and engineers.

There are 300 places available on the programme overall: 100 places for our online session and 200 for the on-campus sessions. Pupils are invited to apply if they are interested in attending and our online application form will ask which offering would be preferred (online or in-person).

The online session will run for 1 day and there are 100 places available on the session.

Two on-campus sessions will run with 100 places available at each 2-day session.

If they are attending an on-campus session, pupils should be able to make their way each day to the Strathclyde University Campus in the heart of Glasgow City Centre as the programme is non-residential. The programme is fully funded by the Weir Group and all student costs, including a contribution towards travel (up to a maximum of £300), will be covered. Teachers are not required to accompany pupils. For the pupils’ convenience, we will arrange for Mentors to accompany pupils from and to the main transport hubs in Glasgow at the start and end of each day.

For the online session (which will run via MS Teams), pupils will be sent a kit in advance which will contain materials they will use to take part in practical activities which staff from the University will talk them through. Pupils can join the online session in school or at home.

Application Process

  • Pupils should apply using our online application form which will be available from the link at the top of this page when applications open.
  • Please see below for a list of key dates relating to application deadline etc.
  • In the application form, pupils will be asked to indicate whether they would like to attend one of the on-campus sessions or if they would prefer to only be considered for the online session. If they would be happy to attend either offering, they can also indicate this on the application.
  • Pupils are also asked to supply the name and contact details for a teacher who can provide a statement in support of their application. Teachers will receive an automated email which will include a designated link to the online application in order to submit their statement.
