School pupils get the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s leading figures in space exploration, including NASA astronauts and engineers. 

It’s one of our most successful outreach programmes, where successful S5 pupils in Scotland attend a week-long residential summer school with us. It’s made up of a mix of lectures, labs and workshops on a space theme, and is delivered by academics and researchers and visiting NASA representatives.

The 10 best students are chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime visit to the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

S@S Accelerate is a one-week programme, held at Strathclyde, for pupils at the end of S4, S5 and S6 and thinking about going to University. It aims to provide a targeted focus on the pupils’ chosen area of academic interest, giving them a head start on the road to their chosen career.

There are 10 areas that pupils can choose to study from, with two Engineering focused ones – the Mini Space Academy and Product Design.

This week-long, non-residential outreach event is hosted annually by the Department. It is designed for S4 school pupils and through a combination of practical labs, lectures and a group activity, gives a flavour of engineering, focusing on telecommunications.

The Engineering the Future for Girls programme, hosted by the University of Strathclyde in partnership with BP, BAM Nuttall and Weir Plc, is designed to engage girls in a range of engineering challenges that will inspire them to become the next generation of engineers.
