Multidisciplinary teams of students #tomorrowstimbertalent from 28 Universities took part in the TRADA’s undergraduate Urban Buzz competition at the University of Sheffield on 23-24 February 2018. Teams were challenged to design a multi-storey timber car park.
Future Engineers, Architects and Landscapes Architects comprised design teams exploring the possibilities of using timber as an alternative material for construction.
The importance of promoting the use of timber as a more sustainable building material in education was recognised by the level of sponsorship for the competition from the Timber Trades Federation (TTF), Arnold Laver, Stora Enso, Hanson Plywood and OSC Sales Ltd. Media supporters included IStructE, Architecture Today and TTJ
Judges’ comments:
Carl Costello Practice Leader at Cullinan Studio said: “ TRADA’s Urban Buzz competition prepares students for working life by getting them to work in multidisciplinary teams to share knowledge, present ideas and come up with exciting new innovations.”
Matt Caldwell, Senior Structural Engineer at BuroHappold said: “This was a wonderful opportunity to bring together like-minded students from different universities and disciplines and then watch the creativity flow.
