MSc Biomedical SciencesAditi Tambe

My name is Aditi Tambe. I am an international student from India with a passion for discovery and innovation in biomedical science. I recently graduated from the University of Strathclyde, where I achieved a merit in MSc Biomedical Sciences.

My time in Glasgow has been an incredible journey, blending rigorous academic challenges with the experience of embracing a new culture and perspective. Whether it’s delving into research to uncover solutions to complex health issues or collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds, I thrive on opportunities that allow me to grow and make a difference. I’m excited to bring this energy and curiosity to new opportunities in the field.

How did you make the decision to study at Strathclyde?

I chose the University of Strathclyde because of its strong reputation in biomedical sciences and its focus on research that makes a real impact. I was also drawn to the welcoming and supportive environment the University offers, especially for international students like me.

Studying in Glasgow, with its friendly people and vibrant culture, felt like the right place to challenge myself and grow both academically and personally. Strathclyde seemed like the perfect fit for my goals, and I’m really glad I made that choice.

What do you like about your course and Strathclyde?

I really enjoyed how my course at Strathclyde combined theory with practical, hands-on experience. The lab sessions and research projects gave me the chance to apply what I learned in real-world settings, which made the material much more engaging and relevant. The lecturers were passionate and approachable, always encouraging us to think critically and ask questions.

What I loved about Strathclyde was its supportive and inclusive environment. As an international student, I felt welcomed right away, and the diverse community made it easy to connect with people from different cultures.

The campus facilities were great, and being in Glasgow - a city full of life and history - was the cherry on top. It truly felt like a home away from home.

What specialist knowledge/professional skills have you developed whilst studying the course?

During my course, I developed a strong foundation in biomedical sciences, particularly in areas like molecular biology, immunology, and clinical biochemistry. I gained hands-on experience with lab techniques such as polymerase chain reaction, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, microscopy, and spectrophotometry, which helped me build confidence in conducting experiments and analysing data.

Beyond technical skills, I also honed my critical thinking and problem-solving abilities by designing and executing research projects. Working in collaborative environments improved my teamwork and communication skills, while writing lab reports and presentations enhanced my ability to convey complex scientific concepts clearly.

Overall, my time at Strathclyde equipped me with both the specialist knowledge and the transferable skills needed to contribute effectively in a professional biomedical science setting.

What are your ambitions for the future and how do you think your time at Strathclyde will help you achieve your goals?

My ambition is to contribute to advancements in healthcare by working in biomedical research or clinical diagnostics, where I can apply my knowledge to improve patient outcomes. I also hope to further my education and specialise in a specific area of biomedical science, such as molecular biology or immunology.
My time at Strathclyde has been invaluable in preparing me for these goals. The course gave me a strong academic foundation and hands-on experience with advanced lab techniques, which are critical for a career in this field.

Beyond academics, the university’s supportive environment and focus on professional development helped me grow in confidence and adapt to new challenges. The skills and experiences I gained at Strathclyde have set me on the right path to achieve my aspirations and make a meaningful impact in the field.
