With spring flowers in full bloom and that big yellow circle back in the sky for a few days (we forget the name of it!!), our attention has turned towards the exciting events arriving on campus over the coming months. Not only is ‘innovation’ in our venue’s name (Technology and Innovation Centre or TIC as it’s affectionately known!) but it’s also a key theme at upcoming events we’re welcoming in May, as well as the area in which the venue is located.
Glasgow City Innovation District
We sit in the heart of Glasgow City Innovation District (GCID); a hub for entrepreneurship, innovation, and collaboration which builds on Scotland’s rich tradition of scientific excellence and industrial collaboration.
Bringing together ambitious, forward-thinking people, the district is tackling societal and global challenges, nurturing growth and improving productivity and access to world-class research and technology from the University.
Glasgow Tech Week and Tech Fest
Working hand in hand with our colleagues in GCID, we’re delighted to be welcoming Glasgow Tech Fest again this year on the 16th May, which is the headline event in Glasgow’s very first Tech Week taking place across GCID from 13th-18th May. Bringing together entrepreneurs and innovators to showcase Glasgow’s thriving tech, digital and creative industries, the week will celebrate the innovation taking place right on our doorstep. With events being hosted in TIC across the week, we’re excited to play our part in supporting Glasgow’s ecosystem; providing a hub for academia and industry to come together to drive inclusive growth.
Tech Week builds on the recent visit from the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation for their European Division Conference in April, which gave delegates the opportunity to learn from innovation ecosystem developers from across the globe and network with counterparts from across several European cities.
Gemma Carpenter, Marketing and Partnerships Manager, Glasgow City Innovation District said: ‘We were delighted to welcome over 100 deletes from 25 countries for the IASP European Division Conference. As part of the conference delegates were given a tour of the TIC, which was a highlight of the event for many.
We look forward to returning in May for Glasgow Tech Fest, which is entering its third year and the expansion of the event into Glasgow Tech Week, which will see over 30 events taking place across the city.’
