Based in Texas, USA, Professor Albert Yurvati is a visiting professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and long-term friend of the University. He intends to continue his lifetime support of the University through a generous gift in his Will.

Through his gift, Professor Yurvati is investing in the future of Biomedical Engineering for the benefit of us all, providing funding for a Professorial Chair in Biomedical Engineering and student scholarships in the field.

Known across the globe as a world-leading and renowned academic and cardiothoracic surgeon, Professor Yurvati has had tremendous impact within his field of medicine. The University of Strathclyde is incredibly grateful for our lasting connection and were delighted to recognise his significant contributions to date through the award of an Honorary Degree in November 2024.

Since graduating from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in 1986, Professor Yurvati has been saving lives for nearly 40 years. His career has spanned across the USA and indeed globally, becoming a specialist and expert known internationally for several surgical procedures. He is the only person to win all three of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons awards including the most coveted Orel F. Martin Medal: awarded to someone who has made outstanding contributions to the osteopathic profession.
