How do I make a Will?

Are there tax benefits to leaving a gift in my Will?
Yes. A gift to charity in your Will is one of the most tax-efficient ways of supporting the University as it may reduce the inheritance tax your beneficiaries pay. Always consult your solicitor or tax advisor regarding your particular circumstances.

What type of gift would you wish to make?
- A percentage or share of your estate. This is known as a residuary gift.
- A fixed amount of money. This is known as a pecuniary gift.
What information do I need to leave a gift in my Will?
All you need is the University name, address and registered charity number:

Can I leave a gift in my Will from the USA?
US taxpayers can give tax-deductible gifts to The University of Strathclyde USA Foundation (USAF) which is an independent charitable corporation with 501(c)(3) status. Gifts to USAF are 100% deductible from your taxable estate as charitable gifts.
Is there a minimum amount for a legacy gift?
No, there is no minimum amount. A gift of any size is an opportunity to invest in future generations of students and to play a vital role in cutting edge research and the wider University community.
Should I tell the University about my gift?
You are under no obligation to tell the University about any gift in your Will. However, discussing the gift with us will mean that we can advise on the appropriate wording to include that ensures your gift has the greatest impact, and acknowledge your generosity during your lifetime.
